Here are a few pictures from Clifton CC's weekend away in November 2003, staying at Kettlewell Youth Hostel.
Our first unscheduled stop occurred where some hedge trimming was in progress:
Paul was the only one who punctured.
Our first scheduled stop was at Bordar House Tea Room in Masham,
where we decided we had time to go via Bishopdale.
The day's persistent drizzle didn't encourage photography,
though a problem with Willy's rear derailleur just before Wensley
brought the camera out for the first time.
Many hands made light work of the problem.
Meanwhile, IanT, Cath, Arthur and IanL were happy to keep out of the way.
Willy was happy with the repair.
The climb over from Bishopdale to Wharfedale - or Kidstones as we call it -
saw some run out of gears, allowing more time to peer at the scenery.
With half an hour to spare before dusk,
a sign for a tea room behind the Buck Inn in Buckden
had us all (eventually) doubling back to sample the cakes
from an old glass display cabinet.
The next morning, we decided to leave the hostel at 9:30, which allowed enough time for a walk above and around Kettlewell first.
Looking across all of Kettlewell from near the road to Coverdale.
Looking more down on Kettlewell from Cam Head.
Much of Kettlewell from Cam Head, where the wind was bitingly cold.
The pub we found on Saturday evening that wasn't too smoky.
Ready to depart the hostel:
Claire, Arthur, Cath, Paul, Kevin, Phil, Willy, and IanL.
Our route home included a ride around Littondale to fill time in the best way.
Here we were in Arncliffe.
Back in Wharfedale, we passed by Kilnsey Crag.
The ford at Storiths was closed, but we knew of the footbridge.
We didn't remember how narrow it was.
After that little challenge, we just had to ride home.
Bernard joined us at the Dales cafe in Otley. The weather stayed dry on Sunday, though the cold headwind made Sunday's 72 miles (14mph average) slower than Saturday's 72 miles (15mph).
Thanks to Claire for organising the weekend.
